Basic principles for working at heights

Basic principles of safety protection for working at heights include: correctly using

the personal protective equipment to keep the operation personnel work at certain

positions; restrict the personnel within a certain (safe) region for activity; and allow the

personnel to perform operation when safely suspended at a certain height, to ensure

the safety of the personnel working at heights and arrest the fall when occurrence.

Fall arrest system:

a system connecting to the anchorage, used to prevent the personnel from falling

when working or travelling at heights, or safely suspend the operation personnel

after a fall occurs. The anchor points of safety harness used in the fall arrest

system as shown in the figure.

Work positioning system:

to secure the user's body near the structure by the positioning lanyard wound around the fixed structure, and set the hands of operation personnel free to perform other operations.

The work positioning system shall be used along with the fall arrest system at the same time.

Restraint system:

to restrict the activity zone of operation personnel, and prevent them from reaching an area

where a fall may occur. The system cannot=be used as the fall arrest system.The anchor points

Suspension system:

to suspend the personnel at a certain height to perform operation,and allow the weight of the personnel mainly supported by the waistbelt and leg loops of the safety harness.

The system is common in the field of operation with rope access.The anchor points of
