Test for limit performance of ASAT horizontal lifeline
2022-07-12News

1、Test purpose

The purpose is to test the limit dynamic performance of ASAT horizontal lifeline in condition

that multi-persons are attached at a single span, so as to determine the limit bearing capacity

of a single-span of the lifeline in practical application.

2、Lifeline configuration

The lifeline is approx. 5 m in length and set up 6.8 m above the ground; its double wire ropes

are vertically arranged one above the other; its ends are fitted with P type end fittings; and

the lifeline is properly tensioned.

3、Test basis

3.1  The measurement taken according to the standard shows that the impact peak of 12 kN

can be reached by the combination of 1 m dynamic rope and 200 kg weight. Therefore, it is

determined to release 200 kg weight at 1.5 m height to create the impact peak of 13 kN (the

value is higher than 12 kN required in the standard) for the test.

3.2  The measurement taken according to the standard shows that the impact peak of 9 kN

can be reached by the combination of 2 m dynamic rope and 100 kg weight. Therefore, it is

determined to release 100 kg weight at 2.5 m height to create the impact peak of 9 kN for the

test.

4、Test procedure

4.1  Attach 200 kg weight to the slider on the lifeline and its releasing height is specified in 3.1.

Position the slider in the middle of the lifeline and then release the weight.

4.2  The 200 kg weight still remains hanging on the lifeline after the releasement. Attach a 100 kg

weight to the slider on the lifeline and its releasing height is specified in 3.2. A force measurement

apparatus is linked between the slider and the dynamic rope. Release the weight.

4.3  The above mentioned 200+100 kg weights still remain hanging on the lifeline. Attach another

100 kg weight to the slider on the lifeline and its releasing height is specified in 3.2. Release the

weight.

4.4  After the dynamic test, carry out the static strength test according to the standard requirements.

5、Test data

5.1 After the 200 kg weight is released, the slider on the lifeline is measured to move down about

1.1 m, which is consistent with the drooping height of the lifeline as expected. The shock absorbing

rings slip to the positions near the stop rings at both ends. No visible deformation nor break is found

on all the parts of the system.

5.2  After the first 100kg weight is released, the measured impact peak is 8.59 kN. No newly visible

deformation nor break is found on the lifeline, and the drooping height of the lifeline measured

remains unchanged.

5.3  After another 100kg weight is released, no newly visible deformation nor break is found on the

lifeline, and the drooping height of the lifeline measured remains unchanged.
